For HOT MESS, Michelle Chen will be exhibiting a selection of paintings and drawings that embraces a maximalist way of seeing. Her practice draws inspiration from ornamental histories around the world. Exploring natural and man-made motifs, she renders space as an embroidery in which forms, colours and figures meticulously and rhythmically weave into one another. Surfaces are treated like labyrinths where the accumulation of minutia kindles a unique kind of spatial depth.
Michelle Chen (b. 1990) spent her childhood between China, Germany, Canada, and the USA. She is an artist and architect based in Berlin.
