For HOT MESS, Lovro Artuković paints two large scale figurative canvases, linking the genre of the classica representative portrait to contemporary Berlin. These are staged images with himself and his friends posing for his canvases during the lockdown. The artist is interested in the tension between the artificiality of painting and the efforts that are made to reproduce something in reality or to represent the real. Theatrical impression of this painting is underlined by the choice of costumes for those portrayed and materials of the sauna.
Lovro Artuković (b. 1959 in Zagreb) is established figurative painter, who has exhibited at Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik, GEHAG Forum Berlin, Kunsthalle Deutsche Bank Berlin, Essel Museum Vienna, among others.
