Keegan Luttrell | Remainder, 2020

For HOT MESS, Keegan Luttrell will be showing the video work Remainder which depicts the slow dissolution of a clay object. The object is reminiscent of a medical mask with medieval aesthetics. As it is contained, the mask dissolves and its smaller particles begin to dissipate. The work loops and reverses, returning the mask back to its original state. Remainder reveals the cyclical process of decay and rebirth, while also displaying what happens when the protective nature of an object no longer exists, is utilized or is valid.

Keegan Luttrell is a multimedia artist living and working in Berlin. She completed her MFA in sculpture at Mills College in Oakland, California in 2013. She graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008 with a BFA in Art History, Theory and Criticism and a concentration in Photography. She has exhibited her works in Berlin, London, Geneva, Athens, San Francisco, Oakland, New York City, Austin, Baltimore and Boston. Luttrell explores themes of vulnerability, fear and protection, emphasising the most fragile aspects of human existence and the reasons behind the urge to maintain a sense of security in a world so tenuous.
