For HOT MESS, Gawie Joubert will be exhibiting acrylic and marker works that form part of the Durban series, created during the first and second lockdown. Confined within his apartment and the uncertainty of the pandemic weighing on him. Joubert reflects on grey Berlin days and yearns for the sea-side humidity and sweltering heat he’d experienced living in Durban before moving to Berlin. These illustrative paintings are based on sketches Joubert made while living in Durban.
Gawie Joubert (South African, b. 1988) is a visual artist, illustrator, and graphic designer and has exhibited in Johannesburg, Budapest, Berlin, London and Dubai.
