For HOT MESS, Berenice Güttler will be exhibiting a hanging piece that deals with the sculptural character of fabric materials. She is fascinated by fabrics in themselves, the transformation of tangled fibers into a lively but ordered structure, their different characters and the moment when this order dissolves again at the edges of a cut piece of fabric. Even a small fold in the material, and the two-dimensional tilts into the three-dimensional, into the sculptural. Her textile work is permeated by her drawing lines. So these threads of line flow from the drawing into the fabric and back again, forming new rhizomes.
Berenice Güttler (b. 1984) is a visual artist currently living in Berlin. She graduated in 2012 from Braunschweig University with a diploma in Fine Art. In 2016 she received the New York scholarship from the State of Lower Saxony.
