For HOT MESS, Natascha Schoenaich will be presenting two oil paintings depicting vividly colored scenes with subjects that range from the mundane to the dreamlike.
Built with layers of differing textures and depths, the canvases create painterly spaces that revolve around vulnerability, personal mythologies and a more-than-human experience.
More News From Nowhere is a dystopian vision from inside a submarine or a bunker where uniformed figures play cards. It was conceived as a meditation on the patriarchal mindset of life as a game which has to be won while at the same time confining the players to their self chosen prison, isolated from the outside world. 'Nightfall' is a contemporary take on Balthus' King of Cats. The male gaze is now sleeping or dead, the cats who once were the objects of his desire are now the ones awake, glowing in the dark and taking back the space.
The artist’s poetic and often symbolic oeuvre has evolved around emotional, spiritual and liminal states, with her work encompassing painting as well as immersive sound and space installations.
