For HOT MESS, Maia Beyrouti will be presenting ceramic vessels and the latest of her sculptures: an exploration of the boundaries of ceramic and glaze materials.
Maia Beyrouti’s sculptural vessels are an exploration of the elements of water and stone. The surface textures and shapes are reminiscent of eroded rock faces, sandstone caves and water-carved rock. The selection also features some of Maia Beyrouti's sculptural work, an exploration of her ceramic materials research within the theme of Collapse & Accumulation. In her work, there is an accent of an imagined elsewhere, a desire for return, and something of the present meeting something ancient.
Maia Beyrouti is a Berlin-based, French-Palestinian artist and ceramicist, making ceramic work under the moniker of Moïo Studio. The studio develops a body of work investigating the role of objects that bridge art, craft, and design. With a focus on sculptural vessels and an interest in expressive surfaces, each project comes together as a result of the studio’s ongoing glaze and clay materials research. This informs a desire for certain forms and techniques inspired by architecture, raw materials, and celebrating mundane, utilitarian, or overlooked details. The practice is an ongoing exploration of the familial and spatial relationship between humans, objects, surfaces, and forms.
