For HOT MESS, Markus is presenting four paintings.
The practice of Mark Gley is inspired by the maxim of Joseph Beuys by which ‘art is life and life is art’. In this sense, his artworks are both self-portraits and explorative enquiries into the states of man and nature. In his more recent work, Gley shifts from the eccentric to ordered rasta paintings, reflected in galaxies and other states of the universe.
Markus Gley (b. 1980, Greifswald) lives and works in Greifswald and Berlin. He graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts and holds an MA at the UDK Berlin as "Hero at the UDK Berlin" class, where he studied with Burkhard Held. Recent exhibitions include: HOT MESS, Berlin (2021); several exhibitions in Greifswald, such as at Tschernobyl (2019), Tausendschön (2017, 2016, 2015), Polyfarber (2016). His work was also exhibited at Frieze London (2012) and Art India (2012).
