For HOT MESS, Maria Sécio will be showing 3 photographs.
Maria Sécio's work ranges from analogue photography to video, in which she explores the luminescent qualities of her apparatus as an extension of her own optical abilities. The analogue long exposures encapsulate a discourse between the objective nature of chance; how the interplay of light, distortion and movement result in an image, and the more subjective nature of memory; one’s imperfect recall of a day, moment or scene. In her videos the camera, too, seems to have a life of its own. Sécio manipulates the images by manually affecting the way in which light enters the aperture, and attempts further disruptions through her careful control of the lens' focus. Throughout her work, Sécio seeks to reveal that reality remains relevant and authentic albeit altered and imperfectly perceived.
Softly Colliding is a long exposure image of the sea on an analogue medium format camera.
