For HOT MESS, SMS3D and Fabian Kalker have animated a moving high gloss 3D object which explores the concept of visual and audible sensuality. The object is designed using fractal geometry–known as nature’s way of defining complex three dimensional forms–which imbues the shape with a sense of immediate and relatable familiarity.
The object, aptly named Lustobjekt, was created with the intention of fostering highly sexualised associations through the choice of color, surface sheen and pulsating movements. It draws the eyes of the viewer across it in slow motion, creating a feedback loop of exploration between an implied orifice and the voyeuristic gaze as a starting point.
Fabian Kalker is a German-French composer and music producer, with an academic background in composition and guitar. He lives and works in Berlin, composes for theatre productions, installation works as well as for contemporary dance performances. The club culture of Berlin is a constant reference point in his artistic work. A focus of his work is transformative processes. Fabian draws further inspiration from new weird science fiction literature and radical forms of collective living.
SMS3D is a design studio for contemporary visual storytelling founded in Berlin by Frieda Femfert (b.1990) and Till Dumke (b. 1989). They both grew up in Berlin.
