Andrea Breinbauer | Misplaced room, 2022

For HOT MESS, Andrea Breinbauer presents a site-specific installation. 

The work of Breinbauer can be characterised by her invocation of painting as a form of reflection on the artistic histories that Western tradition–from Renaissance to the advent of the Avant-garde–has claimed as its own. 

With carefully considered brushstrokes that edge on hyperrealism, Breinbauer developes narratives which, whether inspired by literature, pop culture or her own biography, operate as starting points for the creation of new stories developed through the superposition of images originating from a variety of semantic fields. 

Andrea Breinbauer (b. 1990 in Chile) holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art awarded by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2018, she received a scholarship awarded by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) to pursue Theater Design studies at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule University in Berlin, city where she currently lives and works.
