These days we are sufficiently concerned with our respiratory systems, however, we rarely consider air for its material properties and weight. In our human habitat, air is like water: an endlessly circulating, pervasive and ever-present substance.
For Hot Mess, Adrian Lohmüller is showing a sculpture which shows the perimeter of one kilogram of air. One cubic meter of air at sea level pressure weighs 1293 g. Transferred atop a 80 x 120 cm euro palette the height of the cube is 80,5619 cm which is approximated in the sculpture. The mobility of the palette further questions the ephemeral presence and passage of the sculpture’s essence. Once removed, the air will still remain.
